So I'm planning on picking up a radar detector soon to... uhh... detect shit, and have started thinking about how I'm going to mount this baby. The stem cell is already taken by my ram mount/GPS combo, which leaves several options:
1. Mount on the handlebar using one of the many mounts available.
2. Hack & slash a bracket which will attack to one (or several) of the body screws (somewhere under the windscreen) and extend outwards; attach detector to it.
These options are fairly straightforward, but I don't really want the detector sitting on top of my bike in full visibility...
Has anyone tried taking their radar detector apart, extending the cabling for the sensor(s) and mounting them in places like the "third eye"? I figure that with some creative wiring I could make it work. The only downside I see is that when the unit sits outside the bike it's more likely to pick up waves which are bouncing off of surrounding objects and are not necessarily shot at the bike.
What do you guys think? Worth the effort or a waste of time?
