So there's three of us on a ride back from squamish yesterday, and just before we hit horseshoe bay, there's a alcohol/road check setup. The cop flags the three of us to pull over for no apparant reason and asks for our licenses/registration. The time is 9:09 pm, and I'm still riding on my 6L (two month waiting list, road test is coming up on Thursday). Both of the guys I'm riding with have their full 6.
The cop won't let me go b/c it now after sunset. There's still lots of light in the sky, but the sun has been 'officially' set for 14 minutes. Our desination is only five more minutes away, but that's just not good enough for him... The nice lady at Driver Services told me that it was no riding from dusk till dawn, and I admit that I didn't read the fine print. Fine, you want to be a dick about it, whatever give me the ticket.
But here's the part that really pisses me off. While he's off writing the ticket, one of my friend agrees to take my bike home and then come back and get me. He would just leave his bike at the exit right there and come back in a cage. I could drive the cage back and he could get his own bike.
When the cop comes back with the ticket we explain this to him. For no better reason than "I already called the tow truck", he won't let my friend take my bike. There's nothing in the law that said my bike needs to be impounded. We were never offensive to the guy, and at this point I asked him why he insisted on having the bike towed, and to just be reasonable. He asked how he could be more reasonable.
Fine, it was 15 minutes after sunset. I'll pay the fine. But the fee for having the bike towed was $150, just b/c the cop felt like being a piece of $%*&. It took two hours for the flat deck truck to come. While waiting I got to sit and watch him stop and scrutinize every guy on two wheels that went thorugh, while waving through all the cagers.
Just wanted to vent.
