Stoner out of action for the next 3 races

This statement from Stoner is just in on MotoGP.com:

CASEY STONER, Ducati Marlboro Team (3rd in the championship on 150 points)
“After five extremely difficult races due to my health, I returned to Australia to visit the sports doctors who have looked after me for many years. We have taken the difficult decision not to contest the next three rounds of the championship, to allow my body time to recover from the recent stress. The doctors believe that during the Barcelona race I was suffering from a virus, and, that I subsequently pushed my body too hard, leading to problems that have caused my fatigue since then. The doctors are continuing with many tests to try to understand these problems and make sure it does not happen again. I have spoken with Ducati and thank them for their understanding at this time. I feel very sorry for the factory, my team, my sponsors and the fans and I am also disappointed because the bike in the last races has been very competitive. I will be doing everything possible to come back at full strength for Portugal.

They said all kinds of nasty stuff about Freddie Spencer too--then it was discovered he had carpal tunnel syndrome which left him about 20% strength in his throttle hand (if I remember correctly).

That's a crappy break, but a virus? Seems kind of weak, when compared to what these guys usually put up with and go through. Not the way I wanted to see Rossi win this years championship. Looks like it will be 1,2 for Yamaha.

So Lorenzo comes back and races the day after doing a massive highside in qualifying, but Stoner wants to sit out 3 races because his tummy aches?

    lame.

I tend to give Stoner the benefit of the doubt....a nasty virus can be totally debilitating.

Ducati can't be happy with this. Yamaha's gonna have two spots on the podium then, unless Lorenzo has a few more scrapes:

What I meant was that Stoner has 'attitude' anyway, not that there isn't something legitimately wrong. Shoot - a bad flu is far more debilitating than a little broken bone or soft-tissue injury, for a bad flu impedes even the thinking process itself (how can one make the requisite split-second, life pertinent decisions in racing when 'thinking through a thick fog'?).

So it was'nt meant as a serious criticism ...

I don't know about you but if I have a bad fever I can barely think. I'm literally retarded. more so than normal.

=[ Yeah ducati won't be happy but It's better than him trashing their bikes and placing last.

Stoner came back the day after highsiding AND having a tummy ache and raced. Hell the guy barfed in his helmet half way through a race and still came in 3rd. I think he deserves the benefit of the doubt and some quiet time.
That that doesn't kill us forces us to live with a busted up bike!!

He raced with a broken ankle at one point.

And anyone watching Stoner this year compared to last it is easy to see there is something wrong. If it takes 3 races off in order to get him back to where he can compete for a full race, I think it makes for much better spectating.

I'm just here for the intelligent conversation.
I think it's far more dangerous riding with a fatiguing virus than broken body parts.

At 200 mph your mind is much more important than your leg.

When he was on the podium a few races ago, he looked awful.

Whatever is wrong would seem to be quite serious.
