On my list of things to do was ride the island. I can now say I did it and am not sure I would do it again. Lots of traffic this time of year, lots of tourists, looky-loos and everyone is on island time.

This 4 day island trip departed from the Tsawwassen ferry to Duke Point. We were the only bikes on this 2 hour ferry ride. First on and first off, ahead of the traffic we rode through Chemanius, Cowichan Lake (DH49) and onto Honeymoon Bay. In Mesachie Lake the locals told us of a recently paved road to Port Renfrew, one many people think is still a dirt logging road. After 58 km of winding, twisty pavement to Port Renfrew we stopped for lunch at the hotel/pub. I have to say that road has to be one of the top on the island
With lots of little towns and nothing in between, including gas stations, I ran out of gas before reaching Sooke. My new gas guzzling GSX-R means it when the gas light comes on but I still got 254 km out of one tank. Stayed the night in Victoria since Sooke had little to offer in the way of quality accomodations.
Hit the East & West side Shawnigian Lake Road (DH66). Also did some obsure off the map road that ended in gravel.
Onward to the Malahat Drive, stopped to take pictures at the Summit.
