More often than not, when cops are mentioned on a thread on this forum, a bunch of haters come out of the woodwork.
So I thought I'd write about my attitude towards cops.
My dad had lots of bad run-ins with police in his youth, and back then they weren't so gentle, particularly in Europe. He took enough beatings to learn to respect cops when he came to this country, and he passed on this simple wisdom to me:
1. Always be respectful to a cop - it's a tough job.
2. End every sentence with "sir" (back in my dad's day, there were only male cops).
3. Answer questions directly, without adding extra information. "Yes, sir". "No, sir".
4. Keep your hands on top of the steering wheel. LOL.
I thought I'd learn from my dad's mistakes and have always followed these rules. I've had lots of run-ins with cops, all of them have been positive.
In fact, I just got pulled over for having an expired insurance decal by a lovely female police officer. This was one of my better run-ins with the law.
Hmmm...lady cops are so hot....
