I was motivated by the thread about best rides this year, and starting posting in it, but decided to do this instead.
Certainly not an "epic" adventure, but perfect weather, perfect pavement, and an absolute blast.
Went with my Dad and his wife, he on the Bandit 1250, which he just sold last week to get a V-strom. Me, on my new to me V-strom, luggage installed 2 days before we left. Carla, my Dad's wife, on her mighty SV650.
Our plan was to camp 2 nights, keep costs down, and just focus on the riding. We ate out, no cooking at campsites, so not "roughing it" by any stretch, but keeping it simple.
This was our route, which was approximately 1800kms, which we did in 3 easy days:
I can be long winded, so will try to keep this relatively short, and have more pics than words.
Unfortunately, the best pics would have been some of the roads we hit, but we were all having too much fun in the twisties to stop & take pics, that you'll just have to trust me....well worth the ride!!!
Next year, I'll get better "riding" pics, as I have a camera mount on-bike.
Crossed border at Sumas, with first lengthy stop, other than gas, planned for lunch in Winthrop.
Great ride through the Cascades, as usual:
I'd like to report that the ride went without incident, and there were no casualties, but unfortunately, that wasn't the case...RIP
Arrived in Winthrop, only to find out that the power was out in the whole town, and the few businesses that had a genset, were not restaurants.
In fact, we were lucky to even get gas, after lining up for it, and the buzz at the ONE gas station open was they were close to being out of fuel....we got lucky, filled up, and away we went.
Original plan was to cut hang a left at Twisp & shoot over to Omak, then up to Osoyoos to cross the border. Unfortunately, the fires were heavy, and that road was closed.
We decided to stay in WA longer, and take #20 & come across near Grand Forks.
Really glad we did, as the highway was great, had some pretty nice twisty sections along the way, and the scenery was fantastic!
Cont'd in next post.......
