bike 02 R6, 38,000K
so riding home this morning everything felt fine, pulled away from many lights with no problems. then, when i heading east on 1st ave down the hill from rupert the bike suddenly feels like it looses power, so i give it a bit of gas and nothing. check that i'm in gear, pulll the clutch in and out (cable seems fine, seems like it has normal tension for clutch actuation on it) and still nothing.
so as i'm coasting down the hill with the motor running i put the bike in neutral and wonder what the hell happend? did i drop the chain? i pull into a parking lot and have a look at the bike. chain seems fine, turns properly when i push the bike forwards or backwards. i can run thru the grears properly and they all seem to click into place fine. i don't see an obvious pools of oil under the bike or a trail up the street. so i start the bike up and it fires right away, revs fine, put it in first and don't notice the typical clunk, let out the clutch slowly and nada, nothing.
my only guess is that it could be the clutch.
so what do you guys think? what does it typically cost to get a clutch done? how easy is it to do yourself? (i've done tons of car repairs - clutch, re/re a tranny, brakes, timing belt, etc)
the best part of my morning so far has been pushing my bike from boundary and first to halifax and willingdon. good times.
ok, so i had a quick look at it just now and noticed something really strange when i fired it up.
with the bike in neutral, the speedo went up and down in relation to the engine rpms. rpms and speed would seem to indicate the bike is in second gear. the clutch was also out at the time i noticed this.
then i pulled the clutch in, went up to third and let the clutch and and the bike didn't move.
next i decided to try something. with the clutch out and the engine running i was able to cylce thru all the gears without having to pull the clutch in. each time i went up a gear i could hear the rpms of the transmission change while the engine rpms stayed the same. at that point i shut the bike off.
any thoughts on what might be going on?
