I open my mailbox last night, and to my surpise... a package from Buell!
Dear blah blah,
It's a great brand... we sold lots... economics went bad... we pulled the
plug... but we are still servicing...
And we have lots of color catalogues we printed ahead of time that we
didn't need... so we enclosed one... and we have lots of bikes we made
ahead of realizing we were pulling the plug... so they are showing up at
dealers, and we'd like to offload them to you...
"These razor-sharp bikes have proven very popular in markets such as
Europe and Australia, places where riders really know their sport bikes".
No mention of the good ol' US of A, or Canada. If only those two markets
really knew sportbikes...
I can just see the boardroom meeting with the new CEO...
"Look dammit, Buell and MV Agusta make no sense for this company...
the idiot running it before had the titanic off on the wrong course.... we make money on Harley branded items like nothing else, why we are doing this is beyond me..."
"Yes sir... well, we must kill the brand then. But Sir, people will be REALLY
pissed off at us."
"Look, it's a recession. Tell them it's tough economic times that forced us
to make this tragic decision".
LOL. Probably how that went down.
