Well, i've done it: i crashed on jan05th on H91A eastbound just before the Queens bridge. I spent 3 days in the New Westminster hospital feeling stupid.
What happened? Entirely my fault. Medium to heavy traffic, i'm changing lane 'frenquently" because i'm sick and tired of people tailgating me. I will change lane until i find a more "prudent" driver that is behind me. Soooooo,
I'm on the left lane, on my '08 zx6r with not even 4000 frigin km on it, the guy behind me is right up my ass, i look at the right lane and i see a large gap in traffic, so i changed lane to the left. That done i look again behind me and i see small 4x4 that's taking up the slack. i'm watchin him because i feel is comin' up a little fast. I give some trhottle (mistake #1) to get up to the car in front of me to close the gap before someone cuts me off, while i'm still lookin' in my mirror( mistake #2) When i look forward again, the cars in front of me were stopped. Now i known there is no way in fackin' hell i'm gona stop in time so i just squeezed the brakes as hard as i can. result? The back end lifted up, threw me off the bike, i fell face first on the ground then rolled and slid a bit, then my perfectly well kept and mint yellow zx6r proceeded to fall on me. "luckily" for me, the cars in front had started to move out of the way while i was doing my Cirque du Soleil stunts. I remember crawling to the concrete divider because i was scared out of my mind that a car would run over me. (average speed was about 50km/h that day)
So now, i'm on my back, the wind knocked out of me, my eyes squeezed shut
And i could hear all the cars going by me, and i'm saying oh fack, oh fack over and over again. not until i heard someone say " are you ok pal?" that i opened my eyes and noticed that everyone had, in fact, stopped. The cars i could hear go by were on the OTHER side of the highway! So anyhow, the final tally: fracture right elbow, right hand(just a small bone) right knee hurts like hell so can't walk that much/fast, and generally a very stiff body. I was wearing full gear head to toe, Shoei, Joe Rocket. My zx6r; broken top fearing, damaged ram intake, broken r/h mirror and foot peg. That's it. Wanna konw why? I just installed Puig frame sliders two weeks ago! plus i have a nylon luggage carrier on my rear seat that obviously protected the tail end. Ha!.
An intersting twist: an RCMP officer came to the hospital the next day to give me back my driver's licence... and a ticket for " driving without consideration"($196) while laying in pain on a strecher in the corridor! I will give more detail about that in the "ask a officer" forum. i have a few pictures for your "enjoyement".
P.S. Moral of the story? If you are 46 years old and ride a supersport bike, You will not walk away from a "slow" speed crash. Wear your f.....g gears old guys! Your body has more millage than your bike!
