Just picked this 1989 GSXR 750 up for $700. Here's the lowdown:
-It starts up and runs good
-Tires look OK, chain and sprockets look good
-Looks like it wasn't horribly neglected
-Most fairings are intact
-The mother fuckin price!
-The front upper fairing with the windshield are pretty busted since the PO grabbed a hand full of front brake
-The whole headlight assembly is busted
-It likes to backfire, pop, and spit flames out the exhaust if I rev it up too fast. Maybe it just isn't warmed up enough. Havn't taken it for a real ride yet.
-Some road rash
-Back of gauge cluster is messy, some lights aren't plugged in, horn isn't plugged in.
-Muffler says Hindle on it. It's not a 4in1 system, as it has two pipes connected right before the muffler. Exhaust is in great shape, but I'm not sure what this means for carb tuning.
More importantly, pictures!
The general plan is to get a 'new' headlight assembly, upper fairing, windshield & mirrors, then go through the wiring (one of the PO's installed a bunch of LED lights around the whole bike. I'm guessing he stunted it or was just a fag. Oh well.)
Mechanically I need to change the oil, maybe replace the tires, and see how it runs when it's warmed up. When it's cold, (and it's hovering around 0* Celsius right now) it takes about 4 seconds of cranking to fire up. I don't think that's too bad.
