Which companies do you guys use to do a VIN check?
are there any "free" Vin Checks or do you always have to pay?
I want to check the background of a bike and wonder which company should I use?
I am not sure about free, but check ICBC. Just google ICBC and VIN. Costs ~$20 for a basic VIN search and $60 for a very thorough, cross Canada bike check.
:) you'll live longer
a stolen vehicle search can be done with CPIC. Google cpic
If all you need to know is rebuilt/normal status, then yes its free. Here's the page:
Just click accept, next, then you can enter the VIN.
Saved me once from buying a rebuilt that wasn't disclosed. The extra details are $20 but the status is free.

I went to one recommended off the ICBC website. It is not free, but I'm sure you could get some if not most of the info for free if you have the time and patience to go out and look for it.
It will also say on the bottom of the registration. Rebuilt, Canadian import (if the bike is from another province) or International import (if the bike is from the states or anywhere else.
What kind of info are you looking for? The ICBC search is the only source that's recognized in BC. A Carfax report doesn't stand for shit and they're usually filled with errors.
