So I ordered one of those $18 mini spy cams of ebay and got it a couple of days ago. I could not get it to charge or record for more than a few seconds and got pissed off I had spent $25 on a mini sd card for it ,so I went looking for another camera. I looked at some reviews on the web on the flip and creative vado (which I might have bought if I could have found one in stock).
After looking in best buy, future shop and London drugs I wandered into Staples and found a Sony with a movable lens for $136 http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/...52921665736688
I was skeptical of it ,being a Sony I figured it might just piss me off with some annoying software. But I figured I had a 4 gig Sony mem stick at home I would give it a try. So when I got home to try it I discovered the $18 mini cam was now working Doh! So now I have 2 working video cams one that cost $136 and one that cost $18 so after testing this is what I found.
Mini md 80 spycam
like this but a knock off http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4TFnMDW92iI
works as a web cam
records in avi files
sound not bad
bad motion blur if moved quickly so not good for helmet cam even thou it will fit inside helmet very easy
video quality pretty good for such a small cheap camera
should be ok for a bike mounted cam
clips on license plate nicely.
Sony Webbie HD™ Camera http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XeZye_xOV6o&feature=fvw
records in wmv. files
better video quality
2x digital zoom
works as web camera
built in software allows upload direct to you tube ,photobucket ect
packaged software a bit over complex but ok.
I was thinking about retuning the Sony since the chepo cam now works but figured it was a pretty good price and will still have a decent video camera for the bike if the cheap one dies .
So the Sony is nice but for $18 the mini cam works well.
