when i was driving into vancouver this morning along 1st ave, about 10 car lengths ahead of me i noticed this white box/cube van that had some blue printing on the back door. it wasn't until i got about 3 car lengths away that i noticed the guy on a bike behind the van. even when looking right at the back of the bike it was scary at nearly how invisible the guy way.
the bike was a newer gixxer 750 with an integrated signals and the back of the bike was a bit dirty so the tail light was a little obscured. i think the worst thing tho was that the rider was wearing all black, with no reflective material at all and no logos or anything on the back of the jacket - just all black. this was at 9am and while the sun was behind us, it wasn't on the horizon so the visibility was quite good.
why do riders do this? why do we seem to sacrifice safety for fashion/looks? i was actually kind of spooked having this guy close to me in traffic because it was so easy to lose sight of him. do you give very much thought to your visibility while in traffic or is it more about looking good when you get on the bike?
