power point for GPS, radar, etc.
I want to add a couple of power points for my GPS, radar detector, etc. Keeping in mind that I am almost totally inept at anything mechanical, how can I add some points to my bike?
Anyone know a place that does it well and is affordable? I am thinking of something that might be made for marine applications (more durable/waterproof?), maybe a box which encloses the points and then keeps them out of the elements or something?
Other ideas welcome, but like I said, I am useless when it comes to the mechanics, even the easy stuff...
There are a couple of ways to go
1 direct to battery but ad a switch
2 tap into a switched ignition circuit or fuse.
to do this find a fuse for something thats powered when the bike is on
pull the fuse out and wrap the positive for your power point onto the fuse and plug it back in .
Then find a good ground on the frame to attach the negative and you power should come on when you turn your key on.
easternbeaver.com sells a great fuse box. Not cheap but you can run a lot of stuff off of it and you won't end up with a bunch of inline fuses on your bike.
I have the 3CS from Eastern Beaver, and it's pretty cheap, and great for the "average" person's needs.
