For anyone wanting an alternative to liketoride's always excellent adventures on WA state backroads, I'm keen to 'head out on the highway' for a run up the canyon to Spences Bridge and Merritt return. Roads will be bare and dry, but probably will still be gritty from winter sanding, so pace will be 'with a margin', especially on Hwy 8 outbound.
It'll be chilly in the morning, but ought to warm up fine in the afternoon.
First meeting place: Chevron / Town Pantry one block south of Grandview on Boundary Rd, just into Burnaby: meet 8:15, leave 8:30.
Second meeting place (if necessary): Tim Hortons, 200th and 86th, Langley: meet 9:00, leave 9:15 (ought to be ahead of you and prevent any confusion, Rick).
Third meeting place (if necessary): Tim Hortons, Vedder Rd and Kluckakuck, Chilliwack (just south of freeway): meet 9:45, leave 10am.
I'll leave the Vancouver leave time alone and move the others ahead 15mins if there is nobody joining at Langley and/or Chilliwack - better going early so we get a chance to extend the ride in the afternoon!
It's about 260km from Vancouver to Lytton (fuel stop), and only 160km from Chilliwack, so for those coming from town, we will refuel in Chilliwack. Next fuel stop, Lytton (160km), then Spences Bridge to Merritt via the superb Hwy 8 (100km - twisty). Lunch in Merritt, then home again. Depending upon the group, time, and temperature we might take the Mamit Lake road to Logan Lk and Ashcroft (Hwy 97C - sweepers) - this adds about 80km (1 hr) to the returning time, and gets a bit higher, so we'll only do this if we're not late and it's not cold.
Expect 10am Chilliwack, 1pm Merritt, 2pm leave, 5pm C'wack, 6pm Vancouver.
P.S. I will post a map this evening once I get home from work...
