I just heard natural gas prices are going to go up 40-45%. Anyone heard that yet? Makes me think hard about investing products from http://www.solarthermal.com/ and http://www.energyalternatives.ca/ .
I've been slowly replacing the single pane windows in our house with double pane vinyl sliders. Custom sizes are fairly inexpensive at Home Depot. The payoff on having someone else install them is around 50yrs so not really worth it. Not too bad if you do it yourself.
If you haven't seen them, IKEA has 11watt compact fluorescent bulbs on now for $4.50 , I picked up a bunch the other day and I use them at home and at work. They're as bright as a regular 60w bulb and last 10,000 hrs, don't get hot like a regular bulb. Save your energy and reduce your bill.
Two years ago I installed a Summit (http://www.pacificenergy.bc.ca/) high efficiency clean burning woodstove from The Olde Stove Works in Mission, BC. It was about $300 cheaper than the same model at Vaglio Fireplace on E. Hastings close to Boundary Rd. Chopping wood is good exersize too! That helps to keep my gas bill down even though 2.5 years ago we installed a 92% efficiency furnace.
Anyone else think this sort of stuff is a good idea?
I was even doing some research lately on making your own bio-diesel fuel. It's a little bit involved but possible. Plus your diesel vehicle won't smoke as much and it smells like french fries behind you... LOL. I don't have a diesel vehicle though....yet. Come on Ford... give us a damn turbodiesel in a 1/2 ton!!!
