Dear Scooter / Motorcycle Parking Initiative Supporter:
On-street scooter and motorcycle parking in Vancouver can soon be a
reality with your help. The motion was referred to engineering staff in
October to report back to council. We need your help to get this in
front of council. Please email them at email@example.com and
ask them when we can expect the initiative to be heard and passed.
Following an unprecedented twice sent back for revisions (last time
January 19th) because the report was subpar, the report is nowhere to be
seen. The Olympics are now over and the good weather is around the
corner and we expect action from this council to ensure that riders have
safe, easy and cost-effective parking. This does not mean expensive
solutions that involve costly complicated signage and painting. It does
not mean new meters all over the city and it does not mean displacing
passenger vehicles from space presently allocated. Toronto has free
parking and on sidewalks. San Francisco has free and reasonably priced
(40 cents an hour) for motorcycles. Portland has free in alleys. Why?
Because scooters and motorcyles are more fuel efficient, many produce
less pollutants and carbon, they take less room and reduce congestion
and because they are light they result in less wear and tear on the
roads. Lets get on with it. Email mayor and council at
firstname.lastname@example.org and tell them you want action on this
initiative which is long overdue. If you have done this already, thank
you and please do it again. If you have not done so already, please take
the time now. Thank you.
