Well, its not an uncommon problem, and I've had issues with shaw in other places I have lived, but before switching to telus I was wondering if any of the internet superstars here have any tips as far as computer configuration, or getting shaw to actually care about or horrible service.
Things I have tried:
New router, slight improvement but still a peak time issue, after work must be cranking time in Port Moody because it takes me upwards of a minute to load a BCSB page.
Ran a new cable straight from the d-mark to our modem. I thought this worked, but only for 10 minutes or so then it was back to slow as ****. Which points me in the direction of my computer not talking to the router very well.
Plugging straight into the modem again helps for a short time but eventually is almost as slow as before.
Shaws response is "you need to use speedtest.net at least 4 times a day at different times, plugged in and unplugged and get back to us with the results. When it takes 10 minutes to do a speed test, thats 80 minutes a day, no, I will not do that just because your service is horrible.
Some info, I'm using a mac, have a G5 tower plugged into the router as well, my PS3 is painfully slow playing modern warfare as well though, so I don't think its a mac thing. I can really only get my noob toob on after midnight these days, otherwise i'm just a laggy piece of ****.
Soon I will tell shaw I don't care what the problem is, if its not better I'm going telus, but before giving up the superior ISP I want to be sure it is their service, not a problem on my end. Any ideas? The modem is the only other hardware it could be, and I don't know anything about that.
So, any idears?
