Okay, more battery woes here.
Twice I had to bump start my bike this week. In the morning today it was 12.8 volts before I turned on the ignition. Okay, so far, not problem, right? When I got it running, it climbed up to 16v. It was fine all day. I checked at lunch time and the standing (or resting) voltage of the battery was around 12.6v. So far so good, right? (I came prepared with a battery tester)
AFter work when I got out to start it, the battery wouldn't turn over the bike. I tested the batt. and it was at 11.7v. Yesterday it was completely dead, not even the dash lights could even wimper on.
Anyways when I got home just now and shut off the bike I tested it right away and it read 12.8 v. I started it up and it turn over okay, and then the battery voltage slowly climbed up to 15.9 - 16.1 v.
My other bike has a resting voltage of 13.1 volts. My car is also at 13.x volts at rest too.
It appears that the battery cannot hold a charge and I need a new battery. I don't think it is the charging system, as when the bike is idling, it can reach up to 16v.
Is my assessment correct on the battery?
