my bike is an 07 gsxr 750
so yesterday i am riding some parking lot stuff. after stalling my bike, i pressed the ignition.. bike is barely able to turn over.
i get a push start.. go ride it for 10 mins to charge battery at higher speed outside lot.. come back, shut it off.. hit the ignition.. same thing, turns over a couple times and nothing (usually 10 mins ride would be way more than enough to charge her to be able to start)
battery was new last year, i've ridden all winter with no issues. when i went to montreal for 2 weeks in december it did deplete to the point i could start it but i've ridden it daily since, and have never had any issues
i disconnected my lights, instrumentation; everything except what was needed for the motor to run, got a push start and made it about 20 mins to my buddy's place. once we parked i tried to turn it over.. it cranked maybe 3-4 times but wouldn't start (2 cranks more than in parking lot after 10 min run)
we put the battery on a tender for 30 mins, and after that it turned over fine. i rode home 20 mins.. and when i got in my underground it still turned over fine, having said that there were no lights on to draw juice from the battery.
after 12 hours on the tender the unit says the battery is fully charged ( <80%)
so, in light of the above.. my questions:
does a stator die instantly? or does it fail over time, charging less and less
also, someone had mentioned rectifier, which are prone to failing on my bike. if the rectifier had failed, would the bike even run? or would i have the problem i have now..
my buddy with the same bike has had the same problem with his stator.. but before i replace it i'd like to get some opinions or further troubleshooting suggestions..
