    Highway Speeds

Took a good rip to Whistler today. In the 80 zones, most people were doing 110ish.
Highway driving, on a warm/quiet/dry day, what might you (or your friend ) average?

I try to do the limit when I can.
But most of the time it's just not realistic when everyone around me is doing 10+, 20+, etc.

Let me be the first to nominate this for stupidest thread of the year award.

What people "average" over the speed limit depends on that person's skills & abilities, confidence, bike condition, road condition, traffic, visibility, police presence, mood, and a million other factors. There is no "set average." End of story.

It depends. I'm I'm on my way to kerunts' sisters place, I'll usually average 20 over. If his mom is there too? I'm well into the "excessive" zone.

I think you meant 12 and under.

We're talking age, right? In that case, you're correct; I averaged by adding the ages together and forgot to divide by two.

Why do they make vehicles capable of exceeding 110km/h?? In Canada that is the fastest you can legally go.
Time to nut up. Or shut up!

rules were meant to be broken... right? the only speed limit i have is at 14k in 5th gear... so hypothetically speaking, roughly 165-170 on a flat road, 180 downhill

err, i mean, i ride the speed limit

I've been known to go Ludicrous speed at times. This one time though, I almost went Plaid.

Most of those conditions don't apply.

    >> skills and abilities, confidence
It's a highway, any idiot can go fast on it.

    >> bike condition,

I've had some pretty sketchy bikes but none of them wouldn't easily do over the limit of BC highways.

    >> road condition, visibility

Again, highway, it's assumed that it is pretty decent with no major potholes or gravel or blind corners (northern so called highways might be the exception).

    >> police and traffic

Of course it is assumed that your speed is possible and not restricted by traffic. Same with cops, of course no one is doing 50+ past a cop car.
My bikes: A random assortment of junk I found in a barn and fixed up.

The OP specifically mentioned the highway to Whistler - every single condition I mentioned applies on that road, and many others.

bingo. Close this thread, all the information you need is right here. to paraphrase: the best average is somewhere between Ludricous and Plaid.
