    Smile Crack shack or mansion?

Vancouver teacher Petr Pospisil and his girlfriend, Ola Rogula, put together "Crack Shack or Mansion," where players look at photos of a run-down house and guess whether it's a hot property or a drug den.
"Within a few hours, it had 20,000 views," Pospisil said in an interview Saturday.

Pospisil got the idea after watching the average price of a single-detached house in Metro Vancouver creep toward $1 million, then looking at home listings online to see what that money buys.

Pospisil selected photos from Vancouver listings — some with asking prices of more than $1 million — and mixed them in with shots of suspected crack houses in Canada and the United States he found on Google to make up the 16-part quiz.

It was funny reading the CBC reader responses when this was an article last week; many American's thought it was fake and were legitimately shocked when they realised what the market is like here.

    They are not buying houses.
The price is pretty much for the land the houses are on.

I think mortgages rule are changing soon and it will be harder to get one. In the past, too many people bought houses for investment and causing the housing market to sky rocket when someone actually really wanted to buy a house and couldn't.

They already did change on Monday. That coupled with the higher rates should slow things down enough.

But why is everyone so negative about our housing market? Yeah, it's bloody expensive, but it's also a great place to live. In my opinion, it's the best in Canada. If you don't realize that, then you're living in a beautiful part of a wonderful country without appreciating it... and still paying for it.

When asked if he had a problem with indecision, and he answered, well, yes and no.

I got 14 out of 16, but should have gotten 15, lol.

It's all relative to where you're from. People who have moved here from back east think the real estate prices for in-town houses are high, and the average is around 300-350K for a nice place. From my perspective, being from the LM, houses are cheap. I have shown a few people at work this quiz, and they can't believe housing prices in Vancouver. J Scott has a good point, to live in one of the most beautiful cities costs, but the prices there still are not up to the level of San Francisco, so again, it's all relative.
