    radar dectors

Started the new thread to avoid a hijack....

So what are the best radar detectors out there? Are there radar jammers? Are they legal? Do they do both laser and radar?

Passport i9500 and Valentine One, they do laser and radar. Radar detectors are legal in BC.

Haven't heard of any radar jammers, there are laser jammers, go to the "Ask an Officer" forum there is a huge debate about laser jammers and legality in a thread over there.

FYI - Was at London Drugs last night, and see that had models on clearance, no rainchecks.

    Passport 9500i - regular $599, clearance for $429
    Passport 8500/X50 - Regular $449, clearance for $299
    Escort Solo S2 - Regular $499, clearance for $399

These prices were by memory, so don't shoot me, if I'm a lil off.

Lots of info on the board, best is Beltronics STi Driver apparently... at least for now.

Radar is easy to pick up and mostly used by moving police cars. Legal in BC.

Laser you can't really be warned of because by the time you get the beep it's over. For laser protection you need laser jammer however you will get in trouble if they find this on your vehicle... The best is to turn it off right after it goes on so that you can let the cops get a reading on you, at least you can knock off a few km/h off. I don't think this is legal anywhere and if it is cops really hate it.

However, owning both of these will set you back like $1K...

escort has a newfangled detector called the redline. mag. case... might be good for bikes...

i have an x50, and it is amazing except for having to turn off laser because the laser channel is f@cked... common issue.

the 9500 is my next detector... has gps memory to remember false's, and from what i understand, can tell you the speed you are going when you are tagged. that right tats?

spend the 3-500 bucks. it WILL save you more

I have one of these in my truck and it works great.

It's slowed me down on the motorcycle since I don't have one and have to remain aware of my surroundings.

But the STi is invisible to radar and LIDAR... the other ones are good but can't cops tell you have it?

    So?

My x50 is in plain sight on my bike, and I get some kind of comment about it from police at every license check. They're not illegal.

RADAR detectors are legal in BC, Alta and Man, and illegal elsewhere in Canada.

I know, I just figure if you don't have one aren't they more likely (however marginal it might be) to give you a break?

take your gloves/helmet off and cover it.

cops lie all the time on how fast you were actually going... having a radar detector can keep them honest. they say you were doing xxxkm/h thinking that you must have been speeding quite recently.
i have had a cop let me go after i told him it was impossible i was going as fast as he said because i heard the instant he turned his radar gun on.

and hey, if you were able to slow enough to get a regular ticket vs. an excessive, your doing ok.
