Picked up my awesome new lid today from Modern Upgraded from a Shoei TZ-R to this RX-Q DNA Black
Compared to my Shoei XL, the Arai XL is somewhat heavier; but it is a lot more padded. The Arai is a perfect fit for my 61cm Asian head, it doesn't wobble even the slightest (Shoei did) I could wear it all day without fatigue.
Field of vision feels the same as Shoei (I remember their website bragging about extra wide peripheral vision). The visor was easy to use, and stays in place even though it's stepless. I don't like the mounting mechanism though, the first time it took me a few tries and a bit of brute force to remove the visor, even more difficult putting it back in. On the Shoei it took me less than 5 seconds the first time.
Vents appear to be very well built, and all of them channel air around the head as opposed to the TZ-R where air (ergo dust) sometimes gets into my eyes. I was very pleased that my entire head could get ventilated, it'll come in handy when summer kicks in.
Wind noise was slightly better than my TZ-R (probably placebo), but I was especially impressed by the aerodynamics, which made mirror/shoulder checks much, much easier, which I assume will assist combating cross winds.
Some extra features include the retractable chin spoiler, which I found had no effect; removable breath guard, worked extremely well (visor didn't appear to have anti-fog layer); anti-fog mechanism (by pushing the visor out just a little, air travels along the inside of the visor, away from your eyes), worked extremely well.
The package even came with a DVD (probably would've made removing/installing visors easier), two instruction manuals, and a vial of silicone lubricant, as well as a 5-year warranty card.
The inside of the helmet is completely covered by padding/fabric, I was unable to find a spot to stick/glue/velcro the speaker for my bluetooth headset. I haven't spent enough time studying the emergency padding release, so far, I couldn't even find a way to hide the speaker wires.
On a side note
Right after pulling out of Modern, I saw some guy on a BMW dual sport, dressed to the nines!!! It was either a designer suit or casual tuxedo, freaking stylish hahaha. "I'm just going to work".
