And leave it in gear at lights, folks. You nearly lost your beloved Son of Lars tonight. Coming home from a late night at work, I stopped at 108 and King George Highway, facing west. I was in the right lane, waiting at the red. I was tired, and my back was aching. I know that light is loooong, so I popped it in neutral, and sat up. For the record, I NEVER do that, unless I've got traffic already stopped behind me. But my back was sore, so I took the chance.
Few seconds later, I hear it. Screaching tires from locked up brakes. I knew it was right behind me. Sitting in neutral, there was nothing I could do, no escape path. I just closed my eyes and waited to die. Split second later, a Chevy Tracker goes FLYING past me, IN MY LANE, with wheels locked, smoke pouring off the tires.
I was in lane position 1, quite close to the white line. Somehow, this stupid cunt missed me. She blew half way through the intersection before coming to a stop. And that's a BIG intersection. I'd guess she was doing 60+ when she passed me. I felt the bike shake from her wake. When I looked down, the skid mark was less than 3" from my Sidi. I don't know how she didn't kill me, or at least clip me.
That was half an hour ago, and I'm still shaken. Single malt is helping, but I've never been so unnerved in my life. I should be dead in an ER at SMH right now.
Moral of the story? Don't sit in neutral at lights, and keep a god damned eye on your mirrors. Be prepared to move NOW, folks. That just happened way too fast, I feel pretty fuckin stupid.
