I was stopped by a RCMP cruiser the other day near my work during my "lunch time ride around". When the weather is good (I ride to work) I usually take the bike out for a ride around my work area, sort of the same road I take to come into work. Especially lately I've getting new parts for my bike... and the weather has been too nice! Anyhow, I was parked at a stop sign on a side road when he turned in and asked me to pull over to the side. Apparently someone in that area has been sending complaints to them about me running around (Even though that area is probably 80% grass and trees). The complaints are along the lines of "speeding and stunt turning". The officer told me there has been weekly complaints for the past few weeks. He has actually not seen me do any of the accused.
Yes, I do ride in a spirited fashion and have slid the tail of my bike to turn into side roads. I don't actually go fast, I just like to accelerate fast-ish sometimes. The two wheels of my bike are always on the ground. I do not wheelie or stoppie AT ALL in that area and I mean NEVER.
Anyhow, he gave me a warning ticket on "speeding against highway sign". What got me very alarmed was that the officer told me that In these situations I should revoke your license on site but I will give you a warning ticket this time. If, however, I see another complaint, your license will be revoked and we'll see that I don't ever get it back.
Before these complaints I have a completely clean record and never had to deal with officers. This is also the first time I found out about the whole complaint system and dealt with an officer on the road. I knew you can complain about your neighbour being too loud or someone's exhaust but didn't know you can get ticketed for speeding and such from complaints. Whoever was complaining about me probably sent in a tons of complaints.
I always thought you need so many points/violations or something to get your license suspended. As mentioned before, I've never gotten any form of ticket. Do have many complaints against you count as many violations? I got one warning ticket for those complaints (exact # i am not sure but I'm sure there are a few). I had no idea I was making some one "grrr" until I got pulled over. Can they really take away my license if I get one more complaint like the officer said? I do take that road in and out of work and to go out for lunch. I've been behaving really well since I got the ticket but I am kind of worried. If whoever has something against me, they can just fire off another complaint saying I am riding fast or something and next thing I know, my license is... taken away without warning? The officer also said he has linked all the complaints to my plate so if I get stop by another officer anywhere else due to some kinda of violation, they will see the complaints and can and will revoke my license.
I need some info on this... are complaints really that powerful and can you really lose your license that easily? just from complaints? zero tickets and a few complaints? As long someone think you are fast they can get you ticketed?
I fully understand why he would give me a warning though but revoking my license based on complaints?
Sorry for the long post, just wanted to put everything down. I've behaving too well now since I think I can get ding anytime, anywhere and not even know...
