I started up my 97 Bandit 1200 yesterday and there was a small bang, like pffaaaft and it started to backfire continuously. I rode it home and googled a bit. Backfiring is due to improper combustion. I checked the battery terminals were secure (I had problems with that with a previous bike before). Then I saw that the 1st exhaust pipe was cold. So I am running on 3 cylinders. I haven't checked the spark plug but I guess the small bang means that is not the problem? Anybody experienced anything like it? A friend said it might be a valve that blew. I wasn't revving at all when it happened.
