I've owned a pair of Icon Superduty 3's for a while. I bought them intending to just wear them around town (to work, to school, running errands, etc) and buy something that offered more protection for longer (more spirited) rides. I think that time is now. The shops in town (Penticton) don't stock much sportbike stuff (for some reason cruisers are super popular around here) so I'll be ordering whatever I decide on without having seen it. I like the A* SMX-5 (I think that's what they were called), which are available in waterproof or not. There are a few different boots between the SMX-5 and the supertech R all at different price points. My question is this: what does the supertech R have that makes it worth exactly double the SMX-5? What compromises to the other boots in the A* line make? I will most likely be using these for touring as welll (planning a trip to california), so something not too uncomfortable would be nice. Anyone who has experience with these boots willing to offer some input/advice/tell me why the supertech r's are double the price of the smx-5?
