Well, had my first accident in 12 years of riding, luckily not serious, dinged side cases and engine guards are the only casualties.
I was in a parking lot, a woman was backing into a parking spot. I proceeded to continue in front of her, she suddenly went forward, hit me, knocking me over. Apparently she was turning around and didn't see me. Luckily her bumper hit my side case only. The accident was avoidable in that I should have made sure of her intentions and been more cautious, but I was in a hurry. Haste makes waste etc.
She offered to simply pay for the repairs. I work with a woman who's husband does custom bike work, painting, restorations, etc and has done ICBC claims before. He said it could cost up to $600 or $700to repaint both side cases. I'm sure that the woman who hit me had only a couple hundred in mind for repair. Should I take her up on it, or stick with insurance?
I have ICBC basic, and Beacon comprehensive. Who do I call on this? Because it happened in a parking lot and not on a public roadway, what's the rule about this stuff? Technically, I would say she's at fault as she was reversing then pulling forward.
Whadda you all think?
