Okay so I took my bike off the road when this started happening. Basically I fired my bike up and off idle I heard a POOF! I initially thought it was a back fire, the bike kept running and ran fine? Hmm? Then a puff of smoke from the headers... Still running great? What the heck?
Okay so No issues there, it didn't do it for a while. I took the airbox apart to make sure there wasn't a kinked fuel line or vacuum line etc... Nothing. Put it back together and then fired it up, POOOF! This poof sounds similar to a blow off valve in a car btw. So then I noticed my halfmoon on the valve cover gasket is shot out... I put it back in, fired the bike up, and POOOF it flew out again. Okay so now I've got an oil leak.
Before we go any further, and this is where it gets strange, it's not a breather issue... that is functioning fine on my bike. I've triple checked it.
It is a STATOR issue. Believe it or not. The CBR1000's, 929's,954's actually have this really bizare problem. What happens is the stator wires start to degrade (I'm at 40,000) and actually cause an electric arc off the flywheel which ignites crank case gasses causing excess pressure. Some say it actually just starts to burn oil inside the crank as well. It creates a moment where there is way too much pressure for the breather to vent. Either way it's also a honda recall on the 2005 CBR1k but not limited to other fireblades.

It makes sense now because my lights have been flickering on off when the bike is running. I guess the stator is on its way out. Shitty because I just replaced my valve cover gasket as I thought maybe it was just worn out or the breather was clogged, checked everything, threw it together and poof again.... Damnit! Anyways my bikes fairings are all done!
Ride with you soon as the stator comes in.
+1 if this is the STRANGEST mechanical issue you've ever heard of. It it wasn't for that honda recall I'd have never figured this out.
