So my wife had her first parking lot session at PRS yesterday...did not go well...I rode by at 10pm to see how she was doing in the class. I talked to the instructor and he has advised that she should go with private lessons instead. From what I've been told, she has wayyyy too much tension. She feels that she cannot keep the bike stable and thus has a death grip on the handlebars. Everytime she feels the bike start to shift, she panicks and either grabs the clutch in, hits the throttle by accident, or grab the handlebars which leads to dropping the bike.
She keeps telling me that the bike feels "too heavy" and always feels off balance. She has difficulty controlling the bike with the handlebars. She is also complaining that holding the clutch all the time (I'm assuming it's the beginning where they tell you to hold at 14-15) makes her arm sore and thus contributes to her tension and further inability to control the bike/handlebars. We have scheduled a private lesson with Dat, but not until Monday. Is there anything you guys can recommend to help me prep her to get her to relax and/or get used to the balancing of a bike before Monday? Or am I better off waiting for Dat to instruct her? I would get her to sit on the 250 to get used to the balance point, but unfortunately it's not lowered yet, so it's too high for her. They've suggested riding her bicycle, which I will get her to do. Anything else? Good thing is that, despite all the trouble she was having, she still wants to finish this and learn to ride
Thanks in advance for any tips!
P.S. Dat was great. He just finished a group ride, and came over and talked to us for at least 15 minutes.
