Here’s the scoop. My license expired on Monday and since it was a learner’s permit I had to go redo my written exam as well as my skills test. So I took today off and went and wrote my written exam and then after went home grabbed my bike and did my skills test. On my way home I decided to take Shaughnessy home since there was less traffic. As I pulled up to the light at the end of Shaughnessy a cop turned left from David onto Shaughnessy. Once my light turned green I looked in my mirror to see that no one was behind me then I turned left and gradually accelerated to 95ish kmps. Next thing I know I heard a siren and there was a cop behind me. The cop that had turned left onto Shaughnessy had done a u-turned and come back onto david to “check my drivers license”. He pulled me over at where David crosses with Pipeline. He said “I clocked you at 94 and at one point you were doing over 100”. He ended up giving me a 196-dollar ticker for speeding in a municipality section 146(1).
I was extremely shocked at this seeing as I gradually accelerated; I was putting no one in danger at all. If anyone has driven that stretch of road you’ll know that it’s four extremely wide lanes. On top of that I’ve been driving vehicles for 7 years and have never had a ticket in my life; I have a clean driving record. I’ve been riding bikes for over a year and have ridden over 10000K in that time. I think that i’ve been taken advantage by authorities. He claims that if I take him to court he will charge me for “excessive speeding” which will get my license suspended. What does everyone recommend I do? I think my clean driving record is worth something... I should have got a warning at most.
