Just got back today from a great 2 day ride.
Chilliwack/Princeton/Osoyoos/Grand Forks/Castlegar/Crawford Bay/Creston/Castlegar and home again. Total distance about 1380km. See the map for most of the important info.
Weather happened to be pretty good. 24-28, but a bit chilly in the mornings, and particularly over some of the mountain passes (Salmo/Creston, Manning Park)
Deer, deer, deer. 14 sightings, including one that decided to play Frogger with me on the Salmo/Creston. Took 3 giant leaps across from my left. Full braking and his eyes met mine. I swerve right, clutch in, 9 grand on the throttle and he spooked and buggered off back the other way. Not much gets the heart beating more than that!
I marked most of the gas stations and their approximate locations. Most of the ones outside towns are RACETRAC GAS or Ultra Fuels etc....most of the marked towns have a brand name gas station of some sort.
Radar in selected areas. Particurly watch in Christina Lake, Hope/Popkum, Princeton. 5-10km either side of any town, do yourself a favour, and keep to the limit.
I tried to mark out a few of the better spots, in orange on the map. The road from Crawford Bay down to Creston is stunning. 2-3 sections that go straight for maybe half a mile, otherwise, never more than 300 yards in a straight line. I left CB at 7AM this morning, so there was literally nobody out there but me.
One nasty corner - right in Crawford Bay - just north of where we stayed in which I heard 2 riders came off yesterday. One with a broken leg.
More to follow....
