Trip to LA in Sept/Oct 2010

I've started planning a ride to LA in the last week of September and will be returning the third week of October. I'm starting to look thru the ride reports forum for route ideas and the best roads to hit and if anyone has any suggestions I'd like to hear about them.

    really? even for cali?

after reading bandito's last ride report i'm tossing around the idea of putting the bike in the back of my truck and driving down to norcal in one day and then starting the bike trip from there.

ya _ I was talking about the ride from here to Cali ... once down there it should be sunshine and flowers ... October can be hit and miss (in B.C. and Oregon) - some years really really nice here, and some quite wet

I posted a thread about a trip out of LA, here:

    http://www.bcsportbikes.com/forum/sh...d.php?t=123036

As long as you do not wait too long, the weather will be spectacular,
the traffic light, and the roads, worn summer clean !

If you are riding all the way, would want to be back by early-October,
depending on the year, as the monsoons may be started...
Live each day like it is your last,
like you will never get another chance...

One day it will be, and you will not.

your thread is one of the ones i've bookmarked to have a read thru.

i'm leaning more and more to the idea of trucking the bike to norcal.

it could give me an extra 2 days of riding for sure and it pretty much eliminates and fear of rain/bad weather thru the PNW. besides, i can do wash/or over the course of a long weekend in the summer if i want.

    Looks good.

    Some notes:
#1 from Leggett, CA was one of my favourite parts of the trip - liked it more than #36. I've got the whole thing on video, but not online. Drop by sometime and I'll show you. Looks like you're taking the road just south of it - also looks very twisty, but don't know it.

#96 isn't quite as fun as it looks on the map - pretty big sweepers for the most part. Insanely hot there - next to no shade. Watch for deer - almost ran one over just outside one of the small towns. There's a nice campground near Hoopa on #96 (it's called "hoopa something" - road twists down to the river). Here's a pic of it: http://gallery.yubastudios.com/image/163

Your route on #1 looks good - there are some very good stretches there - really right corners high on the cliff wall. On one side you have the mountain, on the other a 500ft drop to the water - find the perfect balance of fun/not-getting-killed and you can have a lot of fun there. I loved it.

Oh, there were also a few Google street cars running around there (maybe not from Google - a competitors? Who knows... they were Imprezas).
"Yamaha" - it's Japanese for "fuck your sports car."
