It was late and it was dark. I was going home from a friends birthday party (no i did not drink not even one sip). I was traveling North on 4 road towards Finn. There was no street lights and i could barely see the road so i was extra careful. I came to the curve and slowed down a bit more since i wasnt able to clearly see the road condition. I was going maybe 30~40. Unfortunately, that wasnt slow enough, i hit a patch of gravel/sand and my back wheel went out. Not wanting to drop my baby, I managed to save it from going down but then after i saved her, she could only go straight. What ahead? well it was a river. A relatively large drop to the river too. I didnt have enough road to stop and in i go. Yep the bike was under water and i didnt have enough brain or reaction time to push the kill switch. Therefore the engine is dead so a total write off.
I am incredibly lucky, if you google it, you can see that on either side i could have sustained serious physical damage. I probably landed in the softest and safest spot. Since it was fairly low speed, i walk away with a tiny little bruise on my shin and a sore elbow. I am incredibly lucky and I bought my lotto tickets (and no i didnt win... so i will not be getting everyone a 1098s).
ICBC wrote it off (nice of them right?) WRONG! They have lowered my star driver status by FIVE YEARS! Prior to this, i have had 7 years of clean history, 1 maybe 2 tickets. Not a single ticket on my motorcycle. I tried to explain that there was no alcohol in my blood at all (backed by police and paramedics), i was not speeding (else i would have suffered much much worse injuries), and this all happened cause of gravel or sand that i could not see! NOPE they dont give two shits about that. 5 freaken years = 25% increase on my insurance. When the adjuster told me this, i wanted to punch her in the face so hard and then tell her "oh its ok, you have insurance... BITCH!" Either way, am i glad i am alive so ICBC can rape my bank account.
But in all seriousness, i am glad i am alive.
