Vintage car racing at Mission this wknd.

I know it is not bike racing, but there are enough gearheads here who would enjoy the annual B.C. Historic Motor Races this wknd at Mission, put on by the Vintage Car Club of B.C. Very entertaining and a blast to see the old iron driven hard... very, very hard.

Races are on again tomorrow (Sunday) if you have want to see some very spirited 4 wheel racing... a stroll through the pits is very cool if you like old cars. And if you like newer cars a Porsche Carrera GT, two Ford GT's, a supercharged new Cobra and a Noble we doing some hot laps at lunch - in all, a nice day in the sun. More details are here.

    Insanely fast Mini:

Not sure if the old girl would pass tech? I would also need at least a basic competition license to get on the track this weekend, although I did get a SCCA Novice license back in 1987 or 1988 - as if I could find it now ?

Anyone check out the Hot Lap for Kids charity fundraiser?
Local guys with ridiculous supercars take you for a hot lap around the track for a donation.
Saw a Porsche Carrera GT there last year, and saw it heading there yesterday. Last year also saw 2 gallardos, a Ford GT, 3 race prepped Porsche cars (GT2 class I think?), and apparently a guy had brought out his race NSX, but it was too loud for the track.
Was awesome to hear these things as much as see them.

Didn't see the bit about the Noble. That would be a nice car to watch.
One of my profs bought a Lotus Elise a few years ago, takes to track days all over the NorthWest. That tiny car hauls ass. Could probably even keep up to a 600cc off the line, but lose it in top speed. And all from a toyota motor.

Yep, the GT 40's and a GT 2 and Carrera GT were doing the lunch time 'Hot Laps for Kids'... the Carrera GT at full throttle down the straight was very impressive - bounced off the rev limiter a couple of times, just howling!

The vibe is totally different from a WMRC event - very restricted where you can stand for photos during races (only a handful of spots available) & there is even a dress code for everyone on track (including photogs) - long pants required... white or light colour preferred. An older crowd (it was vintage racing after all) and very well-healed. Some very impressive toy haulers (and toys) in the pits.

    A couple of other shots:

I recognize a lot of those cars from the Molson Indy track in 97 or so. There was a heat for that class of car.

    Neat.
