It may be a great idea to check and/or replace some of the critical fasteners! Coming back from Squamish tonight, I was leaned over pretty hard in a right hander, couple km the other side of Lions Bay. Leaned over juuuust enough to scrape my peg. Well, the moment the peg contacted the road, the bolt that holds peg to rearset, snapped! Snapped clean off, and my peg and rear brake lever came off the bike. Still attached to the brake linkage/master cylinder, but now dangling, and my right foot dragging and dancing off the pavement! I stayed calm enough to keep loose, get my leg up, and finish the corner, but it could have ended poorly. Next corner was a left, and then a viewpoint to get off the highway.
I'll be removing both rear sets tomorrow, replacing both bolts, and threadlocking/torquing all the others. When you get to 170000km, I guess this needs to become regular maintenance.
Just a heads up, and friendly reminder for all.
Ps- Riding home to Surrey from the other side of Lions Bay with no right side peg? Yeah, it sucks.
