Long time lurker, first time poster...
Just got back from a trip to the Island. For most that may not seem like much, but I live in Castlegar. Thanks to the search feature, and some detailed reports from people like Kerunt, I mananged to cover 1446km in 2.5 days, on some pretty sweet roads. Oh, and I ride a Triumph Daytona 675, which isn't known for it's long distance comfort. Nonetheless, I left Thursday after work for the bustling metropolis of Tonasket, made it to the Island on Friday, and drove all the way home today. The route can be found here: http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=d&sourc...,0.359116&z=12
Needless to say the butt was a little numb. Since there was quite a bit of rain through the Cascades on the way there, I followed basically the same route home. Only difference was to follow Hwy 20 further east from Tonasket to Wauconda and then north up the Toroda creek road. This was because the Havillah road was covered in gravel on the way down. Sadly, Toroda creek road was the same until the junction with Chesaw road. Either way, it was good to get some miles in, even though the summer is feeling colder by the day...
Here's a few pics:
Thanks again for lots of useful info! Cheers!
