that first one is the first NSR500 from 1984. it was a very experimental design which really showcased some of the adventuresome engineering that Honda did when they came back to GP racing. Unfortunately it never worked as hoped.. Spencer didn't even finish the year on it. that's a great pic of it.
The second one is the Elf honda, which had that unique front end. Ron haslam raced one of those for a few years.
If ever there was a prototype racing bike it was the NSR500. The sight of the expansion chambers under the tank plastics always gives me wood for some reason.
That NS is very cool but has always made me cringe. I know hot 2 pipes under my ass on my RZ can get, I cant imagine what it would be like to have 4 pipes under my chest.
Just like the F1 cars. I was in Montreal this year when the cars were unloaded from the trucks. They looked ridiculous with the litte two inch tires. Without them they would never get in the truck. :laughing
It's subtle but sometimes you see them in the pits like that.. Here's a pic from my wife's collection from Corner working at Laguna.
I'm not sure exactly why they do it, besides some guesses along the lines of it just makes the bike roll easier, there's no possible damage done to the rotors, and the race rims are together on the the warming rack.
However, is it me or were those umbrella girls exceptionally ughh
