To give you a bit of background i grew up riding dirt and got my first street bike in 1999 (TL1000R lol!) when i was 18. My brother and I started track days in Chilliwack in 2001 and have been doing them ever since. We have an enclosed trailer we store in different locations with our home track being Thunderhill. Our main tracks being Miller, Infineon, Thunderhill, Portland, Seattle.
My brothers and I have come to the conclusion to really get a feel for sliding the bike and get quicker we need more two wheel time and should get back into dirt and perhaps SM. I read up on the RPM series and it looks fantastic. I'm hoping to run a full season next year....
Now, I need some advice on buying/building a SM bike. Were looking to build 3 race bikes with the intent of hitting practices and for me at least racing next year. So they don't need lights, kick stand etc. My older brother got the ball rolling by buying a fully prepped 07 YZF250 from a WMRRA racer this past weekend. The three of us gave it a rip and they're seriously quick especially in the top end though maybe lacking a bit of torque compared to the 450's. I'm not quite sure as i've never ridden a 450.
Is the 250 a good bike to start with? Our intention is to do dirt as well so we're thinking it's a good compromise. I've been searching primarily for CRF250's as I'm a Honda guy but open to any make/model. Any help you can provide is appreciated. Thx.
Attached are a few random track day pix.
