On any other day I would have been on my bike and things would have been different... worse? better? Who knows but f%^ I was pissed off.
Today, however, Friday, long weekend, I had my car packed with scuba gear ready to head out after work.
I was driving along 25th just a block past McDonald st, a car ahead of me and a couple cars behind an a bus pulled off to side ahead.
As the car ahead of me got to the bus's tail end his signal went on which puts me about 2 car lengths + spacing back, what's that, like 30-40ft?
My options as I thought about them at that moment. Brake hard and let the bus in (I hope the guy behind me saw the signal and has had his coffee), or continue and let buddy behind me with more room slow then stop. Hell, the bus could even wait the 3 extra freaking seconds till we went by and then move since there was NO ONE behind us.
Instead, the bus pulled intentionally into me, the extra second or so of thought time didn't leave me enough room to stop as I was now 50% past his rear end so I braked and swung away from him. My car got into the grassy median and slides a bit and I didn't like that feeling so I let off a bit on the brake and when stopped was as far as I remember, mostly on the grass. Horn was lit as soon a I had a chance, driver clearly saw it was UNSAFE TO ENTER THE ROADWAY when he made his move...
I pulled up next to him and honked till he opened his window... old bastard just looked at me and repeated over and over "You just didn't see the signal". WTF? so you signaled? who cares, where do you have the right to run me into the grass or worse, anywhere else, oncoming traffic. Risk injury of me, my passengers, and the bus passengers.
What the hell can I do? Talked to translink, they're "looking into it". Haven't seen the damage to my car yet if any, I intentionally haven't looked...
If there is damage, can ICBC still call a 50/50 even if the bus driver CLEARLY caused the incident and my decision to pass through despite the yield law?
Abuse of power by the bus driver. Arrogant, blind, self-righteous abuse of the yield law. What a dipshit.
