I have few suggestions to make it a more interactive forum. I realize it could be spammed and not work out well but I think it's worth a shot.
Suggestion 1: Up-vote/down-vote system for comments.
Example: Comment section on popular social news sites like reddit.com.
Suggestion 2: Have a "thank" system where a user can click "thanks" on the bottom of another user's post to indicate that the post was helpful.
A list will accumulate at the bottom of the individual post to show the users that have thanked the poster for that particular comment.
Also an accumulative count of total "thanks" that that user has received will be displayed in his poster information (under his/her username in that post).
This may be a better solution than up/down vote because opposing views would not be down-voted to hell just for thinking differently. Also users would strive for a higher "thank" count than "post" count. Also the amount of times the user has "thanked" other users would be displayed next to the number of times s/he has been "thanked".
Example: Threads on the nokiausers.net/forum.
If you elect me Mayor of BCSB.. I will make this happen!
