I was in traffic court this morning in Port Coquitlam. For the 9:30am docket there were 16 mattters scheduled to be heard, with a similar amount in the afternoon. One cop was handling the majority of matters and he had everyone line up. He advised every single person that he would not oppose a fine reduction if they pled guilty to save court time.
The officer also appeared to be listening to a guy who was telling him him that he wanted to be a firefighter and was hoping to get his ticket thrown out entirely. They stepped aside for a further discussion, which would not have been necessary if the the officer had refused the request.
The one matter that was heard ahead of mine was two counts: possession of liquor underage and being intoxicated in a public place- the JP set the fine at $40 and $35 respectively for a 17 yo kid whose mom pled guilty on his behalf. That's well worth sending in your notice of dispute for most people.
The officer withdrew the charge on my matter as he did not have any witnesses available - and that was it.
