Help me clarify the configuration of the 2012 Gp bikes as the information comes available.
Ok, here's what I am understanding so far. Enlighten me if I am wrong.
Only the basic engine concept has been revealed so far - with the capacity being up to 1000cc and the engines having four cylinders and a maximum bore of 81 millimetres. FIM president Vito Ippolito said that further details would follow soon, but that this should be sufficient for the manufacturers to begin preparing for 2012.
Under the proposed 2012 rules, max revs will be closer to that of current production racer-replicas than, say, Formula One. This is because requiring an 81mm bore in a 1000cc four-cylinder engine will also dicate stroke and, therefore, piston speed.
From my understanding the motors and chassis do not have to be off a production based bike like WSBK.
I can see the motors being cheaper then the previous 800cc plant. The parity is created once again to see how much money they throw at the bikes.
Its not like the Moto2 where the engine configuration is all the same.
