    Anyone excited about the Dakar?

I'm having serious racing withdrawal and the Dakar is always something that 'holds me over' till the season starts again.

I know that the coverage is sometimes tough to get in North America unless you have some sort of online source, but this year should be an interesting one.

With KTM being back with full factory support on the 450's, instead of the restricted 690's, and Yamaha and Aprillia having done quite well last year, I'm looking forward to seeing how things will shake out this year.

    Anyone else jonesing for racing?!

I hope KTM continues to dominate in the new 450 era!

I was in love with Dakar, when it was still the Paris->Dakar rally. I find it hard to get into the South American version having seen the majesty of the original. I still watch the new version but don't develop the same fascination with it as I used to.

Is it going to be in Africa or is Liberia still pooping the party?

Nevermind looks like South America again. Oh well.

I remember the old days of BMW dominance followed by Yamaha and Cagiva entering the fray. (Remember the Elephant?) KTM then came in a kicked ass.

Speedvision used to have some great coverage. Who is covering it now? I know there are some web-sites set up by teams but is there an Event page I can log in to?

I know what you talking about. Races like Dakar and Baja are hard to film due to the long distances they cover. Technology will change that one would think.

I am hoping that Dalar's switch to 450cc Pro Class will bring more fans. Before the big bikes they raced were unlike the normal bikes we ride. Viewers could not relate to the hardships of riding the massive twins the racers used. We will see.

Myself, I enjoy Dakar. It is a true test of skill and toughness. These are special men and women that risk life and limb for the sake of adventure. That being said I love Extreme Enduro more. Those guys are awesome.

Yes, not quite the same, is it? Still enjoy it though.

Had a passing interest in it when it was Paris-Dakar but now have none.

Completely and totally off topic - I see your namesake is still alive and well.
