Okay so, this thread is meant to be a learning experience but can also function as a 'funnies' thread.
With that being said, post superstitions you find weird, funny, or downright stupid.
Try to explain the superstition to the best of your knowledge, and include what culture it pertains to, and how you've come to learn of it.
1. a hospice shouldn't be built near a residence because... I actually don't remember the reason. ghosts? bad luck? financial disaster? Oh, I think the decreased property value may have been viewed as financial disaster.
2. from 75% of the building's residents. Oh wait, apparently that's from Chinese culture.
A more sincere example:
1. the number '4' is an unlucky number, and can be associated with death. I think it's because the pronunciation of '4' and 'die' sound very similar.
2. from Chinese culture.
3. noticed it when some buildings and hospitals don't have a 4th floor on their elevator buttons. Older buildings at VGH for example. The 4th floor in newer Jim Pattison pavilion at VGH is actually a mechanical floor about 6ft high and isn't open to the public.
...and you get the idea. let's hear some interesting shit.
