I bought a truck (Dodge Dakota) in December, as my wife and I plan to pick up dirtbikes to rip around on this summer (since we won't be riding in BC with the over 40 laws) and I'm now in the process of trying to find/researching a ramp/set of ramps for loading.
We also plan to throw the streetbikes ('02 R1 and '06 VFR) in the truck once or twice a year and bomb down to Cali or elsewhere.
So we'll need something that will work for large streetbikes more than dirtbikes (if it was just the dirtbikes I'm sure we would be fine with a slim little ramp) as if drop my wife's VFR I'm dead.
Any recommendations for ramps? The Dakota bed is about hip height for me, or maybe just under my hips, but not as high as a full-size. It looks like one of those big wide ramps like a Black Widow would be nice to walk the bikes up a really wide single ramp, but is it a pain to fold those monster ramps up and find space with 2 sportbikes in the back?
The bed size is pretty good (6.5 foot long, almost 5 foot wide) so I think even with the two bikes the ramps should fit in the back.
This type of large ramp is what I am talking about for example:
Do most people just make due with 2 ramps and walk up beside the bike on the other? Or a single ramp plus step stool?
Seems like most people recommend the canyon dancers to protect bodywork (and will pick some up) but what about straps. Do you need anything special, or just ones from Princess Auto/Canadian Tire with the right strength/capacity?
Any recommendations or tips much appreciated!
