gonna rant here for a sec.
My friend's family takes in foreign exchange students all the time. The newest guy is a 19 yr old from Beijing. He's here to learn english @ VCC. The first time I met him he looked like he was at least 24 lol, this guy was pretty big.
He's been here for like a week and knows like ZERO english. Anyways he takes the skytrain to and from school each day and he's got a concession monthly transit pass. Apparently the first time the translink cops asked to see his ticket he showed it to them but they don't believe he's 19 so he shows them his ID, than everything is fine.
This morning though transit cops checks for tickets and the kid shows him his pass and ID and the transit cop writes him up a ticket anyways. The kid is confused as hell and keeps pointing at his birth date and on the concession ticket 14-19yrs. the cop takes away his monthly pass and just walks away
On the ticket it says "Failed to pay for the required fee".
Anyways the kid is pretty upset and he's worried it'll go on his record or something (he wants to study here more and just doesn't want a record of anything, which might not help his chances to get into classes) even if he pays the fine for $173. I still think it's bullshit, and i'm gonna take him to ICBC on the weekend to dispute the ticket. Thing is though he threw away his receipt for his January monthly pass, which might make the dispute a lot more tricky..
I just hate for him to think Canada is always like this... iunno. What do you guys think? Should he pay the fine or should we go dispute this even though he doesn't have a receipt?
