A while back I was eye-balling the single malt whiskey and whisky selection and thought - "We have lots of excellent grain and water here in Canada, have I been missing out by not trying the domestic offering"?
So I bought some Crown Royal. It was good, but not nearly as intense as the Scottish and Irish offerings. Today I bought a bottle of Gibson's 12 Year Old Gold Label. Again, good, but quite mild (if that is the right terminology), even compared to some run of the mill stuff like Ballantines.
So what do you suggest? What is your choice when drinking domestic - and I mean neat or on the rocks?
