Hey fellas, Since I appreciate reading all of your posts on new model test rides I thought I'd share my opinion on the new Z1000 I took out yesterday. Keep in mind that the entire ride was in torrential rain, the bike had only 65k on it, and it was a demo bike so needless to say I can't comment on third gear wheelies, chassis stability, or all day comfort.
What I can say is that it was a really fun bike. Not at all what I was expecting, every pre-conceived idea I had was wrong. I thought there would be plenty of wind blast but the fly screen did a great job of keeping me in a quiet pocket. I also thought the bike would sound awesome. a real screamer. Once again, dead wrong. I wouldn't of been able to tell the difference from that bike and any other inline 4 that I've heard from Kawi.
Power delivery was smooth once under way but be careful with mid corner adjustments and chopping the throttle on/off around town!
Overall comfort was quite reasonable, the only real knock I'd have on it would be the buzz coming through the bars, very annoying above 5500rpm. The seat was fine if just a tad too forward slanted for me - not good on the jewels if ya follow me!
If anyone is considering buying one of these and you're looking for some assurance, don't bother waiting - buy it! If you like the looks (seems it's a love it or hate it bike) and it's in your budget, go for it, with a couple minor mod's, it'll be an awesome ride.
